Our hard-wood handles are
hand polished and then burnished with leather, ready to have the
fine oil finish applied. This is an oil finish unique to James Noble
knives and is made up in-house from linseed oil, beeswax and
driers – to a specially formulated recipe as old as the Scottish hills
themselves. For antler, bone and 10,000 year old mammoth ivory or
tooth – the material is simply polished to a natural smooth finish.
The process of finishing hard wood handles can take up to four
weeks of daily application. This produces an extremely hard, durable
and waterproof finish that is fixed into the wood itself, bringing out
all its natural beauty. This does mean that waiting times for our
knives can vary from 4-12 weeks depending on the precise
specifications that you require. But trust us, it will be worth the wait.
We do occasionally have a few knives in stock if you require your
knife more quickly.
When we finish a James Noble knife, our aim is to make it beautiful,
and to ensure that it will work beautifully for a hundred years and
beyond. Each knife is created to last several generations –
handed down and cherished. |
